Rating is nothing to do with the food or cost, they are both good. Rating is because of the way I am treated because I am a tourist. Visited for a second time today to have vegetable rice and curry, the same as all the other people there. We pay the same, LKR300, but that is where it ends. I had to watch Sri Lankans being served portions 3-4 times the size of ours. I tried to ask for a third portion as the first two weren’t great but my plate was taken away and washed. Another customer kindly pointed out to the waiter that my plate was empty and I was due a refill. He got to a point of almost picking up my plate then noticed a couple on the next table needed a refill. Turned around and walked to their table and dealt with them first. I don’t expect any kind of special treatment but I do expect to not be treated like something you have trod in. Sadly today that is the way we felt. In the first three weeks of being in Sri Lanka we have been treated like this daily in one form or another on numerous occasions. I was looking to return to Sri Lanka a few times over the years, but because of the way we are consistently treated I am sad to say this will be the one and only time. Message for Sri Lankans, there is nothing missing in your day if you don’t innately try and rip off tourists at every opportunity. You may find that if you treat us the same as your fellow countrymen, that you will have some rewarding and pleasant encounters. New Raheemiya Hotel charges same price, good food and just down the road and wasn’t racist or had this overriding compulsion to rip us off.

Ambal cafe is an ideal place to have Sri Lankan Tamil foods. Very tasty foods. Good service and food in affordable price range. When you are in Trincomalee do not forget to visit this cafe and taste some traditional and street foods. 😍😍
